Navratri Special – Rajgira Thalipith (Vrat-Friendly Flatbread)
Rajgira Thalipith is a wholesome and filling flatbread made from rajgira (amaranth) flour, sweet potatoes, and peanuts. Soft inside and lightly crispy on the outside, this vrat-friendly recipe is rich in nutrients, gluten-free, and perfect to pair with fresh curd during Navratri fasting.
Ingredients (Serves 2–3)
Rajgira flour – 1 cup
Sweet potato (boiled & mashed) – ½ cup
Groundnuts (coarsely crushed) – 2 tbsp
Ginger-green chilli paste – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
Fresh coriander (chopped) – 2 tbsp
Ghee or oil – 1 tsp (plus extra for shallow frying)
Salt – to taste (use sendha namak if fasting)
Water – as required for kneading
Curd – ½ katori (for serving)
Method
Mix Ingredients – In a mixing bowl, combine rajgira flour, mashed sweet potato, crushed groundnuts, ginger-green chilli paste, cumin seeds, chopped coriander, salt, and ½ tsp ghee or oil.
Knead Dough – Add water gradually and knead into a soft dough.
Shape Thalipith – Spread the dough on a plastic sheet or directly on a greased tawa, shaping it like regular thalipith.
Shallow Fry – Cook on medium heat with ½ tsp ghee or oil on both sides until golden brown.
Serve Hot – Enjoy with fresh curd or coconut chutney.
Notes
For strict fasting, replace regular salt with sendha namak.
Sweet potato adds natural sweetness and softness to the thalipith.
Can also be made without sweet potato by adjusting water quantity.
